Derby Dinner Playhouse

Last evening, a large number of our YTHC family went to Derby Dinner Playhouse to see their version of Disney's Beauty and the Beast. We had such a great time! The show was fantastic. I think we all came away inspired to give our audiences a high quality show.

I'm hoping to add more photos as I get them from some others who were also snapping away last night. So, keep checking back!

THE TIME IS NOW!

Sponsorship forms are due in this week! Otherwise, it will be too late to get the names in the program. We still have a number of people (you know who you are) who have not turned in even the mandatory minimum amount in sponsorships. This show doesn't happen without sponsors. PLEASE get yours turned in ASAP.

Happy Birthday Mrs. Mingus and Mrs. Clark!!

Words cannot express how grateful we are for all the work you do for YTHC. We hope you have a wonderful birthday today and know how much we appreciate you!

Orchestra

The orchestra is rehearsing and they sound amazing! Everything is coming together--sets, costumes, and actors. What an awesome show we are going to have, with everyone giving 100%!

Rehearsals

Rehearsals

Opening night is fast approaching! We know how talented you are and wonderful this show is going to be. Keep up the good work and know that you have a lot of support behind you!

Costumes are here!

Mr. Marsee, Mr. Maffet, and Mr. Ross rented a 24 ft. truck and left Etown at 5 am to drive to Chattanooga to pick up our costumes. There were 13 big boxes of costumes and they filled the whole truck. They got back to the PAC during our rehearsal time and here are our costume mistresses Mrs. Marsee, Mrs. Mingus, and Mrs. Wimsatt (Mama Ross, not in the photo) opening the boxes. This is a lot of work for our costume mistresses--cataloging, fitting, and altering everything to fit. We appreciate all their hard work!!

behind the scenes

YTHC is so very fortunate to have all these hardworking crew members. They are doing some awesome work and we are so appreciative! It's exciting to see new things constructed every day! We need to thank them for all they do.
Mrs. Maffet hard at work painting and Mr. Maffet and Mrs. Clark working their magic and making the set come to life. I'm amazed at what these two can construct with a screwdriver and a bunch of 2 x 4's.

Michael doing what he does best -- and complains about most :)--painting! Where's Will when you need him?

Bart and Amber work on the fireplace and mirror--it looks fantastic!

lookin' good!

Rehearsal June 11

Ms. Carol and Ms. Phyllis both said that you guys really got a lot accomplished today and they're happy with where you are right now in rehearsals. That's awesome! Keep up the good work. We have Friday off this week, so use your long weekend to rest up and brush up on your lines and song lyrics. You're doing a great job and we're proud of you!

YTHC Traditions

HISTORY
The Hugging Circle started in Youth Theatre before any one person can remember. This tradition is to bring the cast together and to define when the preparation for the show is to begin and to leave everything else behind. The seniors are fully in charge of this event and this is the time to make any announcements to the rest of the cast, to scold and re-lay down the rules, to give encouragement, and to decide on gifts and cards to thank the crew members.
RULES
The hugging circle is formed starting at the dress rehearsals and not before, and continue to and through the strike party.
The crew members are not allowed in the hugging circle, only the cast, until the strike party. At the end of the strike party everyone may assemble in the "last hugging circle" who was involved with the play in anyway.
As suggested in the title everyone gathers in a circle in a space big enough to accommodate everyone. The lead characters must be aligned in one spot of the circle.
The seniors make their announcements (usually decided before hand on what should be mentioned). This can include collecting money for crew gifts and also a mention of when and where to sign cards (usually as they leave the hugging circle towards the dressing room) and anything else the crew has said or other points of interest.(Remember to ask if there is anything else or any questions.)
Once the announcements are finished, whoever has been asked to say a prayer will begin.
The hugging then commences with the first lead in line and one by one each person follows the line around the circle to give each cast member a hug and a sign of a prosperous show along with a few encouraging words. Keep quiet, it is only between you and the person you are wishing to do well.
Remember never to say the dreaded GL word (you may use Break-a-leg, have a great show, give it your best, or anything else you can think of).
The oldest male senior is to have a variety of certs and plenty for each member, as he continues around the circle he offers the certs to each cast member and they each take one.

YOUTH THEATRE SECRET HANDSHAKE!!
If we told you, we’d have to kill you!!!
All of the males in the cast are shown and taught the secret handshake. It's not a big thing if the girls figure it out, but they don't care as much. It's a guy thing. This can be used anytime with any cast member, but is most frequently used in the hugging circle.

OPENING NIGHT
Opening Night is very important and very special night. On this night the cast and crew dress up more than any other night of performance upon arrival. Each performance night, it is customary for the cast to decide on where they are going out to eat after the show, this is unsupervised, and a time for the group to have fun, joke around, and wind down. On opening night the Youth Theatre Board supports and arranges a place for everyone to meet after the performance where there can be food, games, dancing, and fun.

POSTERS
Starting Opening night, extra show posters are put out, one for each person on cast, crew, orchestra, and others. Under each poster sits a brown paper bag. These posters are there for each person to sign everyone else's when they have time, before the show or after the show. You must not be late on stage because of signing a poster. The bags are for gifts that members of the show give each other, such as an uplifting note, trinkets, candy, etc.

PROM NIGHT
Who knows when and why this was started. The senior girls of the cast decide on one night (Who knows if there is any rhyme or reason to the decision, they're girls!) to wear their prom dresses when they come in. I suppose you have to be a girl to understand.

NERDS
NERDS ARE NOT A PERSON. Nerds are a silly, funny, out-of-place, or mistake action made by a cast member during the run of the show. Nerds are written as suggestions by fellow cast members and placed in a sealed box. Common categories are Humming Bird in Heat, Backstage Romance, Upstaging, and Misuse of Props/Costumes. After the last show, the senior members of the cast gather to pull out the Nerds to choose winners and to decide if any Nerds are inappropriate and should be thrown out. At the strike party, the nerds are announced and the winners are given awards, having a connection to the show and made by the senior members. The Nerds are a fun way to bring together the cast to laugh at and prolong the memories of the funny occurrences that go on during the show.

THE RUBBER CHICKEN

Rules
1. The Rubber Chicken will be awarded each year to a cast member of the Youth Theatre of Hardin County.
2. The Rubber Chicken may only be awarded to members of the current cast. The production staff is not eligible.
3. The Rubber Chicken may be given in commemoration of any mistake, accident, goof, blunder or blooper.
4. The decision as to who will receive the Rubber Chicken belongs to the current owner of the award. That is, each year's recipient decides who will receive the award the following year.
5. Each year's winner is responsible for the care and feeding of the Rubber Chicken, and must return it to The Youth Theatre of Hardin County at the end of their one year term.
6. In the event that the winner of the Rubber Chicken does not participate in the show the following year, the Rubber Chicken will be returned to the director. The director will then have to final decision on who will receive the Rubber Chicken that year.
THE CEREMONY
Each year, before the Rubber Chicken is passed on, the current holder of the award must stand and read aloud the entire history of the Rubber Chicken.

Thank you Mr. Shore!

Wow! Mr. Shore showed us some amazing magic this evening--he's an impressive performer, that's for sure. Alice is still wondering how that bowling ball came out of the briefcase! She probably won't be able to sleep tonight for thinking about it!

We are so grateful for his sharing his insights on life, career, and what YTHC has meant to him. Thank you Mr. Shore for taking the time to come back to YTHC and not only entertain, but enlighten us as well!

AND HAPPY BIRTHDAY TO MR. MAFFET TODAY!! WE APPRECIATE ALL YOU DO FOR US!

video

We have something special happening this Friday evening...John Shore is coming to Elizabethtown to speak to the cast and crew. He is a premier magical performer --but what makes him extra special to us is that he is a former member of YTHC.

He's going to tell you how important YTHC was to him and his success. You're part of an exclusive group of people who can say that they performed for YTHC--and many of them have gone on to have very successful careers in all walks of life. We're really looking forward to having one of our own come back and speak to us.

You may check out his website at http://www.stonecastlemagic.com/
